ABC Stage 2

ABC Structure and Layout

We shall establish a standard structure for working correspondence, which is the basis of most written communications. I shall give you around 20 separate paragraphs, and ask you to put them together into emails. We shall look in detail at the "relationship" functions of salutations, introductions, conclusions, and signoffs.

ABC Communication: Feedback

The theory of interpersonal communication is based on a set of assumptions. Not all of these hold in our email reality. In this lesson we shall compare face-to-face communication with email communication. I shall ask you some open questions, to get you thinking and have a dialogue with me.

ABC Improving Readability

We can increase the "readability" of our documents by controlling the level of difficulty. But how can we (quickly and easily) measure difficulty? What are Readability Scales, and how can they help us? This lesson will show you how to calculate and interpret readability scores.

ABC Writing Task

I shall ask you to write an email, based on the samples in "ABC Structure and Layout". You will show me how well you have mastered the fundamentals of structure and layout, as well as controlling your sentence length, redundancy and positioning.
